Pi Kappa Alpha was founded in 1868 at the University of Virginia and is dedicated to developing men of integrity, intellect, and high moral character. The Fraternity has grown into one of the largest in North America, boasting over 200 chapters and colonies in the United States and Canada. Pike has initiated over 250,000 members and upholds the largest average chapter or colony size of any international fraternity. At Texas State, Pi Kappa Alpha has over 80 members and is one of the largest organizations on campus. The Fraternity has a rich history and many great traditions at Texas State University. Prominent Pikes include Tim McGraw, Monster.com founder Jeff Taylor, ESPN anchor Scott Van Pelt, Comedy Central's Jon Stewart, and college football legend Bobby Bowden. The best opportunity that Pi Kappa Alpha provides is the ability to develop socially superior men who are Scholars, Leaders, Athletes, and Gentlemen. By being members of Pi Kappa Alpha and the Greek community, Pikes experience what it means to be involved in community services, campus activities, and high standards of academic achievement.
